Comments from Constituents & Colleagues

Wayne Roberts
President, Lake Champlain Regional Chamber of Commerce 6/05

We wanted to congratulate you on a successful year as an impressive Chairman of the House Natural Resources and Energy Committee...We are pleased with what your committee accomplished this year under your leadership, and your willingness to hear our perspective on the issue. We are hopeful that the provisions in S.52 (Renewable Energy Bill) will begin to address future energy supply issues and will protect against increased
rates. Furthermore, Entergy Vermont Yankee Legislation you helped craft is also vital to Vermont's energy future. We have appreciated all your efforts.

Duxbury Cemetery Commissioners

Please accept our sincere gratitude for all the support, encouragement and help you gave to us when we applied for the Community Assistance Grant through the Stare of Vermont this year...we were awarded $2,000 for the purpose of clean-up and restoration of two Civil War era cemeteries here in Duxbury...We also want to thank you for your personal participation in the clean-up of both cemeteries.

Gov. James H. Douglas

I want to thank you for all you did to make this legislative session so successful… I especially want to thank you for your help on the Jobs Bill and the Renewable Energy Bill. June, 5, 2003.

Vermont State Labor Council 5/26/04

On behalf of the over 13,000 working Vermonters, retirees, and their families we represent, thank you for you work during the recent legislative session.... I would particularly like to thank you for your work as a member of the House Commerce Committee on the workers' compensation bill. Your efforts under difficult circumstances made a bad proposal much better, and began the process of moving the focus towards the true cost drivers.

Sirotkin & Necrason Attorneys at Law 5/27/04

In a session that featured several initiatives that could have seriously impacted working Vermonters, your efforts in the Commerce Committee were crucial to our efforts to protect Vermonters injured on the job. Without your help, H.632 (workers' compensation bill) could have continued on the path...that would have seriously impacted workers' benefits and rights. On
behalf of the working Vermonters, retirees, and their families that the Vermont State Labor Council represents, we thank you for your support and efforts.

Rep. Young of Orwell Republican Chair of the Commerce Committee:

After passage of the Worker's Compensation Conference Committee Report (bill H.632) by the House of Representatives on a vote of 137 to zero : “Mr. Speaker: This Chair’s hat is off to all the members of the Commerce Committee and in this instance the member from Shelburne and the member from Waterbury (Rep. Robert Dostis) in particular. Someone once said “it is better to be lucky than smart” and I couldn’t agree more. I certainly am not smart, but I have been blessed and lucky to have an excellent committee and I thank them all.”

Vermont Student Assistance Corporation:

On behalf of everyone at the VSAC, we want to thank you for your support of our efforts to update our statutes this year in H.519, signed by the Governor on April 6. Your work and your careful attention to the needs of Vermont students and their families produced a bill that everyone call be very proud of. April 16, 2004.

Peter Alexander, Executive Director
New England Coalition:

On behalf of New England Coalition and our members and thousands of Vermont constituents who have asked for an Independent Safety Assessment (ISA) at Vermont Yankee, I want to thank you for your recent vote on HR30. Your courage in standing up for the safety of Vermonters is in the best tradition of our great state and will long be remembered.

Vermont State Labor Council:

On behalf of the over 14,000 working Vermonters we represent, thank you for your recent efforts as a member of the House Commerce Committee on the Workers' Compensation bill....we know that you and your colleagues worked hard last week and fought for changes to our workers' comp system that would make it a stronger program for injured workers...we appreciate your efforts. 02/04

Waterbury Boy Scout Troop:

On behalf of the Waterbury Boy Scout Troop, I want to thank you for coming tonight and, with your very engaging presentation, taking a little of the mystery out the legislative process. That you held their attention for more than an hour is a compliment to your ability to communicate at their level the importance of their role in the democratic process. Like one of the boys said on the way out, "We had this in school and it was boring, but this was cool." They learned quite a bit tonight. Thanks again. Tom

Linda Siegel:

Thanks so much for the interview on Saturday. I gained some valuable information and realized how committed you are to representing all of your constituents. I know how seriously you view your job and its link between the government and the people. I know this is a very busy time for you and I appreciated the fact that you took time out of your schedule to meet with me. Thanks Again.
